In early 1921, a design was chosen by Anthony De Francisi with the front depicting a modern art deco Liberty Head with a crown of rays. On the reverse, a bold, majestic eagle rests on a mountaintop. In his talons, he clutches a laurel wreath, a symbol of America's desire for peace. OFFICIAL SPECIFICATIONS • Each Peace Silver Dollar is minted in 90% fine silver. • By law, each contains .77344 troy ounces of pure silver. • Peace Silver Dollars are quite large, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Peace Silver Dollars were only minted intermittently from 1921 to 1935. In the 1980's, millions were melted down when silver soared to over $50/ounce.
