They have agreed to authenticate certain ancient coins whose origin can be documented. In a few cases, they have graded the coins with physical descriptions as there are no numeric grading standards for ancient coins. NGC certifies the authenticity of ancient coins by putting a description of each coin, a date range when minted, and the word "GENUINE" on the certificate that is sealed inside each NGC holder.
